I started my affiliation with the Morgan Horse in 1973, and have been training and breeding Morgan horses for 38 years, most of which in Oklahoma. As I learned my craft, I have had the privilege of working with and for some of the top trainers in the business, including Liz Sanchez, Mike Goebig, Tom Caisse, and Earl Roney.
In 1985 I married Gayle Gwinup, and in 1987 we opened Gwinfield Farms, Evans Training Center. Gayle loves the reproduction aspect of Morgan horses, choosing the bloodlines, and handling the foals.
My attention has been on training the horses and the riders. I have taught many National and World Champions including Ling Fu, Kriste Caldwell, Jane Sterns, Shanna Gish, Laura Ashmore, Emily Knight, Tisha Dolan, Leslie Barnard, Lauren Winstone, Rachel Emmons, Caitlin Novotny, Cori Tipton, Anna and Riley Rowe, and Sacha Mills. I look forward to many more opportunities to train Champions at this level in the future.
While I love to train, I also love to judge Morgan shows and serve as a class "R" judge. In my career I have judged the World and Grand National Championships as well as many Regional and class A shows.
In 2010 I was very honored to be the recipient of the Cecil Brown Sportsmanship Award. This is awarded once a year and is voted on by our peers in the Morgan Horse Industry.
While Gayle and I are very much involved in this wonderful world of the Morgan horse, we are also involved in the Lowline Cattle Industry with breeding and raising them in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It has been an interesting learning experience and we love the Lowline Cattle as much as we love the Morgan Horses.
